Shai Lavi is a senior lecturer and the director of the Taubenschlag Institute of Criminal Law at the Tel Aviv Faculty of Law. He received his Ph.D. from the Jurisprudence and Social Policy Program, University of California Berkeley. His book The Modern Art of Dying: A History of Euthanasia in the United States (Princeton University Press) won the 2006 Distinguished Book Award in sociology of law from the American Sociological Association. His current research is dedicated to the study of the law and politics of animal rights. He received the Zeltner prize for young scholars and is currently a member of the young scholar group at the Israeli Academy for Science.
