The conference will be conducted as a researchers' workshop and will take place at the Sheraton City Towers Hotel, Ramat Gan, Israel, on January 4-5, 2009.
For better or for worse, the concepts of proportionality and balancing are becoming the central concepts in rights protection systems worldwide and the increase and spread of their use in recent years, especially in Europe, is unprecedented. This workshop will provide a forum for academics from the United States, Germany, Canada, Great Britain and Israel to exchange views and share ideas on the theoretical, legal and practical aspects of the concepts of balancing and proportionality in a wide variety of legal perspectives. The works presented will be published, after a "double blind" peer review, in Law & Ethics of Human Rights (BEPRESS).
